We are somewhere around 3,600 ft of elevation. We are staying with a women named Ellie who hosts racers each year for this event. The hospitality in this community is something that should be modeled after.
We unpacked and went to register at the race hotel. It was still 95 degrees out and I wanted to get a ride in before Stage 1's race at Mt Bachelor Ski Resort. We drove 15 minutes to get to the ITT course. Its a rolling hills course on good pavement. We are hoping for an early start time to beat the heat and wind.
We ate dinner at Worthy Brewery who were offering all racers a 10% off their meal deal. Luckily we sat at the bar and got to catch the last 6K of the Tour de France! American TJ from BMC almost pulled off a stage win!
Went to bed late but our start time for the Road Race isn't until 1:30 pm today. Woke up to the sound of the Deschutes River running behind the home were staying at. Just a beautiful quiet morning.
Time to stretch, get some coffee, and review the course profile for today's stage 1. 70 miles with 3,700 ft of climbing. All results are posted each night at http://www.cascade-classic.org/usac-category-race/usac-stage-1/
I miss my girls at home already!
